Jayne Turvey, Scheme Manager at Orbit’s Ettington Lodge and Rev. Wendy Biddington, Associate Minister at St Peter’s Church in Wellesbourne.
The disused space at Ettington Lodge was given a make-over by our contractor partner, Fortem, who ensured that the area was fit for purpose. Now the room is used to collect and collate the supplies which are then distributed to Wellesbourne and the surrounding villages.
Jayne Turvey, our Scheme Manager at Ettington Lodge, has been working with Wellesbourne foodbank to ensure it continues to operate smoothly, and effectively out of Wellesbourne.
Jayne said: “I saw an appeal on social media for a storage request for Wellesbourne’s foodbank and I knew we had a spare room at Ettington Lodge which could be used to help with the request. So, I spoke to my colleagues and it was agreed that we could use the room in the long term to help out.”
“It is a really nice feeling to know that we have helped in that way,” added Jayne. “I am so pleased we could make use of the space and because all the food is delivered to those who need it, we are acting as a storage facility.”
Associate Minister at St Peter’s Church in Wellesbourne, Rev Wendy Biddington, is heavily involved with the Foodbank and she said: “We provide emergency food parcels across Wellesbourne to those who are in crisis and we are delighted that we can work in partnership with Orbit on this. The Wellesbourne branch of the Fosse Foodbank is affiliated to the Trussell Trust, who provide a set ‘shopping list’ which we use to create the emergency food parcels. Thanks to the generosity of the donations we received, we are also able to provide other essential non-food items too. The project is working out really well.”
Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable and toiletry items to Fosse Foodbank can do so via the various collection points around the village, including those at the Co-op, Sainsbury’s, the Chapel and St Peter’s Church.
Ettington Lodge is an extra care housing scheme for the over 55s, offering 50, one and two-bedroom bungalows and apartments with the benefit of renting your own home, free from worries of outside maintenance and gardening but still providing private, landscaped gardens and communal areas to enjoy. All properties have their own front door giving customers a completely independent lifestyle, with the opportunity to socialise and get involved with the community if they wish. Extra care and support are available to them should their needs and requirements change over time.
Please note: Members of the public must not visit Ettington Lodge to deliver / collect foodbank parcels as it is a local storage facility only for Fosse Foodbank, Wellesbourne branch.
