Get free advice and support by attending one of our free ‘winter wellbeing’ events and you could receive a free ‘winter warmth pack’ worth about £85

Looking for extra ways to stay warm this winter? We can help. Through to March 2025, our Thriving Communities team is hosting a series of free ‘winter wellbeing’ events in communities around the country. Come along to meet our friendly team for some free tips on how to care for you and your home - and keep safe during colder weather. Our partners, Citizens Advice, will be on hand to offer free expert energy advice, plus we’ll have information available about our free Better Days support, available exclusively to you as an Orbit customer. Our teams will also be out and about in your communities, so keep an eye out!

Come along to one of our drop ins or events for support this winter

Come along to one of our events and you could receive a free ‘winter warmth pack’, which includes items to help you manage the colder weather more easily.             

‘Winter warmth packs’ are worth around £85 and contain*:

  • wearable and fleece blankets, to help keep you cosy and maintain your core body temperature
  • slipper socks and gloves, to help keep you warm
  • a one litre thermo flask and cup, to help you keep your tea, coffee or even soup warm. It also helps reduce the number of times you need to heat your kettle or use your cooking appliances
  • a torch and LED lantern, in case of a power outage (instructions to setup the lantern are listed below)
  • a hygrometer, to help you monitor the condensation levels in your home. Ideally, your home should maintain a humidity level of around 50%
  • a thermometer, to help identify areas of your house which may be colder. We recommend you keep your home heated to at least 18 degrees
  • a four way utility key, to help you open water, electricity and gas cabinets, radiators and drain off valves so that you can take meter readings or top them up if needed. The key also contains a practical wrench.

Energy advice

We’ve got plenty of advice to help you to reduce the amount of energy you use, whilst enjoying more warmth this winter:

  • Unplug chargers when not in use
    • Even when not charging, plugged-in chargers still use electricity. Unplugging them can save a surprising amount over time.
  • Turn down your thermostat by 1°C
    • Lowering your heating by just 1°C can save £100 a year on your energy bills. 18°C is warm enough for healthy adults, with slightly higher temperatures needed for the very old or young.
  • Wash clothes at 30°C
    • Most clothes wash just as well at 30°C. You can save around £28 a year by reducing your washing temperature.
